program was first heard over CBS from 06/18/39 until 02/18/40 in the 60
minute format and then it switched to 30 minute programs until 09/22/40.
Hugh Marlowe played the lead role.
The series then switched to NBC from 01/10/42 to 12/30/44 with
Carleton Young as Ellery until August of 1943 then Sydney Smith took over
the role. It again moved back
to CBS from 01/24/45 to 04/16/47 with Sydney Smith.
Lawrence Dobkin was heard when the series moved back to NBC from
06/01/47 to 09/21/47 and the final move to ABC from 11/27/47 until
05/27/48 had Lawrence Dobkin in the title role until January 1948 when
Howard Culver took over.
